Festival du Voyageur

Our class had a fantastic time learning about and celebrating Festival du Voyageur, a special Winnipeg tradition that celebrates French-Canadian and Métis history and culture.

We enjoyed learning about the voyageurs, exploring the sights and sounds of the festival, and experiencing some of the traditions that make this event so special. Of course, one of the highlights was enjoying maple taffy (tire sur la neige)—a sweet treat made by pouring warm maple syrup onto snow and rolling it onto a stick! 🍁

It was a fun-filled day of history, music, culture, and hands-on learning, giving us a chance to experience an important part of Manitoba’s heritage while having lots of fun along the way!

Cookies Through Time

 

Although the K-5 Christmas Concert had to be cancelled to due school closures and inclement weather, the students still wanted to show off all of their hard work! The grade 5 actors that are featured (and worked so hard memorizing all of their lines!) in this show are Landon Rivard, Tennessee Koop, Mila Berg, Piper Peters, and Skylar Bleznuk-Zary. Thank you to the staff that helped and supported our students in creating this show and (almost) making it happen. 

Celebrating Charlotte's Web! 🕷️🐷

We have been reading the wonderful book Charlotte’s Web by E. B. White, and we loved following the friendship between Wilbur and Charlotte! As we read the story, we talked about what makes someone a good friend. We learned that good friends are kind, caring, supportive, and always willing to help when someone needs them.

We also became spider experts! 🕷️🔎 We researched spiders and discovered some really interesting facts about these amazing creatures. We learned about their characteristics, where they live, how they make their webs, and why spiders are important to our world.

When we finished the book, we celebrated with a movie afternoon and some amazing snacks inspired by Charlotte’s Web! 🐷🍿🕸️ It was so much fun to watch the story come to life and enjoy some special treats together.

Reading Charlotte’s Web taught us an important lesson that we will remember: true friendship means caring about others, helping them, and being there for them no matter what. 

Our Visit to the Morris & District Centennial Museum

A Trip Back in Time! 🕰️

We had a great time visiting the Morris and District Centennial Museum! It felt like we were stepping back in time as we explored all of the interesting things from our local community’s past.

We took part in a fun scavenger hunt, where we had to search through the museum and find different items. We also made a special little craft gift box to take home. One of our favourite parts was getting to enjoy some delicious home baking!

There were so many cool things to see throughout the museum. Some of our favourite displays were the old-fashioned schoolroom, sports memorabilia, old tools, and rooms from a historic home. It was interesting to see how people lived, worked, played, and went to school many years ago.

We had a fun day learning about our local history while exploring and spending time together. It was a great way to discover what life was like in the past! 🏡📚

Happy Halloween!

🎃 Pumpkins, Math & Halloween Fun!

We had a spooktacular time celebrating Halloween! One of our favourite activities was designing and carving our own pumpkins. We got to be creative and turn our pumpkins into all kinds of fun and unique creations!

We also had fun with pumpkin math! We counted pumpkin seeds, measured our pumpkins, compared their sizes and weights, and solved different math problems. It was a fun way to practice our math skills while using real pumpkins!

Of course, Halloween wouldn’t be complete without dressing up in our favourite costumes! 👻🕷️ We loved seeing all of the creative costumes our classmates wore.

It was a fun-filled day of creativity, learning, and Halloween spirit! We had a boo-tiful time! 🎃👻

Terry Fox Run 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

We proudly participated in the Terry Fox Run! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️ It was a special day because we learned about Terry Fox and his incredible determination to help find a cure for cancer.

We walked, ran, and cheered each other on as we made our way along the route. We encouraged our classmates and kept going, even when we got tired!

The Terry Fox Run helped us understand the importance of determination, courage, and never giving up. We learned that one person can make a huge difference and inspire millions of people.

We were proud to come together as a class and be part of Terry’s dream.
