Government
Today I learned that people can vote if they are 18 and up. We had an election and Haylee was a candidate and she picked me, Martine and Shailee. It was fun voting. When we were done making our posters we would vote for Andrew, Logan or Haylee. I voted for Andrew because he's nice. Yesterday I learned that the Prime Minister of Canada is Stephan Harper. The town leader is called a mayor. The RM leader is Ralph Groening. Desiree

Today we had Elections Canada come here that was after recess though. So what we learned was about people who can vote. Well if you want to vote you have to be 18 and over, you have to be a canadian citizen and you have to live in Canada for 6 months. People who do vote have to keep it a secret. Our government is Stephan Harper.

A lady from Elections Canada came and told us about the elections and voting.
To be able to vote you need to be a canadian citizen and eighteen and you have
to live in Canada for over six months. Before you had to be white, male and own
property to vote. We got a ballot for who we wanted to vote for. The candidates
were Andrew, Haylee and Logan. Emilie and Autumn were working with
the ballots. When we voted we took a ballot and they marked our names
off and we went to a box to to write it then we put them in a box and added it up.

Mrs. Neufeld came to our class. We learned a lot about the government and elections. Before 1960 women weren't allowed to vote and only white people could vote. We had our own little election. I was chosen to be a candidate. My competition was Haylee and Logan. First we were allowed to pick 3 people to help us make it. I picked Liam, Ethan and Jamie. The class voted and I got 10 votes, Haylee got 4 votes and Logan got 3 votes. I had fun. And in some countries that I forget what their names were, you had to be 16 and in Iran you need to be 15 and up. In Canada before you had to be 21 and up to vote but now you need to be 18 and up. by Andrew
