There it grows again!

Our amaryllis has grown as big as my head! I predict now it's going to grow as big as my arm. And it will bloom. The best time is when it blooms on Christmas. by Matteo

It is 20 cm high!!! Carl predicts it will have a flower next time. Teagan predicts it will be 30 cm next time. Jordan perdicts it will be twenty-seven cm next time.  By Teagan, Jordan, Carl

The plant has grown a lot, 20 cm. Me and Joyce can't believe it! It got darker and it is really straight. Our class just can't wait until is blooms and we see the flower come out! Me and Dez think it will be beautiful. We hope it will get really big already.

They had old boxing gloves. They had a big hammer. I don't know what it is for. They had a tank shell. by Carl and Jero

Unicef

Unicef is a team that raises money for children in Africa. If you raise $10 it's enough to buy pencils and books. If you raise $60 it buys soccer balls and $102 buys bicycles so they can get to school faster. If you raise $235 it buys a school in a box which has lots of supplies. $500 buys the village a water pump and $1928 buys a school tent.  Andrew

Unicef is a company that raises money for Africa. If you raise a lot of money it buys lots of stuff for the people.  Liam

You raise money all over the world to get stuff for the poor so they stay healthy. Teagan

Ms. Martens showed us pictures from when she went to visit Africa. She got to see the MCC deliver things to Africa. Martine

We sometimes choose certain children to sponsor to get them stuff like they need like schools, fresh water and homes to live in.  Aylie

In gym Mrs. Bially challenged us to raise $60 to buy soccer balls for schools. Stephan

Island Breeze

They told us to use our WITS and just because someone comes from a different country doesn't mean you should treat them any differently. Stephan

I went to see Island Breeze at the SMCC and one of the dancers set his tongue on fire. It was awesome! Carl

We got our chins and faces painted. Autumn

They used face paint to tell stories about their families and about what they do. The ladies make their eyes wider to show their beauty and the men stick out their tongue and chest to show their strength.  Elaina

They told us a true story about what happened the night before their presentation. How a stranger tried to get in a fight and steal his vehicle. Teagan

In their country they didn't actually use faint paint. They used a bone and hammer to imprint their pictures on peoples' faces. On the girls they could only print on the chin and the men could get printed anywhere on their face. Jordan

I really enjoyed the dancing! Martine

Rudy told us that in the old days the transformation of getting the face painted was hard to get. You had to ask the chief and your family. You had to be chosen. It was hard to get and he showed us how it was done and it looked pretty painful.  Matteo

If the person who was getting the tattoo asked for it to be stopped before it was complete it brought shame to the family and the village for the rest of his life.  I wish I saw the performance of the fire. Joyce

The performer told the boys to follow the actions of the men and the girls to follow the actions of the ladies. Natasha

They like dancing and showing us how it is done in their country. They showed us how to use our WITS. Robert

Geodesic Clubhouse

Image of the Epcot Dome
Geodesic dome:
Epcot Center
_
Today, geodesic domes come in an almost endless variety of shapes and styles.
Possibly one of the most famous domes in the world, the Epcot Center in Orlando, Florida, is a geodesic dome.

We build our own Geodesic Clubhouse!  It was definitely an exciting challenge! It took teamwork to build this structure. We each had a job such as rolling paper, measuring tubes, cutting, marking and assembling. Everyone had an important role in getting this structure put together!

Jordan's Fossil

I made my fossil from vaseline jelly and plaster!!!Fossil's are made by heat and pressure!!!You can find bird fossil's!!!

Caige's Fossil

I made a fossil made of cement. I put a shell in mine. Heat and pressure make fossils in nature. The wind blows the sand away.

Abram's Fossil

I smeared vaseline on my shell. I dipped the shell in the plaster. Bones, shells, sticks, leaves get pressed in sand and it turns into a fossil.

Johnny's Fossil

Today we made a fossil. We made a fossil with some plaster and water. I put a shell into the plaster then we waited until it dries. Then we filled the fossil with vaseline and more plaster. Fossils are made in nature by heat and pressure. Shells, dinosaur bones, leaves, sticks can be made into fossils.

Cody's Fossil

The fossil  I made is just like a real  fossil because it can break apart. Today we made a fossil. We took plaster and put in in a cup and took our object and  put it in vaseline and then we pushed the object down and then we waited until the next day and then we tried to take them out of the plaster. It left behind a print of my rock. There are different kinds of fossils in the wild like teeth, bones, leaves. A whole bunch of different fossils are found in the wild. the end by Cody Clark

Leandro's Fossil

On Wednesday we made a fossil out of plaster. We did the first part of the fossil. Heat and pressure make a bone squish into the ground and a fossil is made. Snakes can be made into a fossil too. When they die they get pressed and made into a fossil.

Carl's Fossil

We made a fossil. I used a rock. I used a cup and plaster. We learned that fossils can be covered on top . They are pressed. We put more plaster on top of our fossil. It was hard to get out. I had to use scissors. Fossils are made in nature when an animal dies and it sinks to the bottom of the ocean and gets covered in mud and sand and pressed together.

Holly's Fossil

Today we made the second part of the fossil. We took my pencil to make the fossil. We used vaseline and then we put some of the plastern that makes the fossil. We took the second part of the fossil off. The fossil can be made by heat and pressure. There many kinds of fossil in the nature. There are fossils of bones, leaves, rocks, twigs, branches and sea shells are made from heat and pressure. There are so meny kinds of fossils there are fossils of snacks, dinosaur bones, human, mice worms.

Natasha's Fossil

2 days ago we made fossils. We used vaseline and cement. My fossil was of a penny. There were lots of  ideas like a fish , snakes and even a shell. But i didn't want any to do any  of those fossils. I wanted to do a penny and to make it you only need 6 steps. 1. get a small object 2. put some cement in a tinny cup and mix it all up  3. wait a day for it to dry 4. take the small object out 5. put more cement on the parts that are dry 6.take the top off and thats how you make your own fossil.

Elaina's Fossil

How I made a fossil: I had  a shell and we made something like cement. Then we made another part of my fossil. After we cracked it open there were two different fossils. Real fossils are made by heat and pressure. Things are pressed between mud and soil. Many kinds of animals can be made in fossils.

Teagan's Fossil

Today we made the second part of the fossil. We took my pencil to make the fossil. We used vaseline and then we put some of the plastern that makes the fossil. We took the second part of the fossil off. The fossil can be made by heat and pressure. There many kinds of fossil in the nature. There are fossils of bones, leaves, rocks, twigs, branches and sea shells. My fossil was a pencil.

Cookie Mining

Today we broke apart cookies to see all the minerals inside. A cookie is like a rock it has a lot of minerals inside. A mineral is like a chocolate chip because it is chocolate all the way through. We liked this activity because it was fun taking all the minerals out of the cookie. The cookie was delicious! We have also tested the hardness of different minerals using a steel nail, a penny and a finger nail. We found out that not all minerals have the same hardness. We did a streak test to see if the mineral left a mark behind.

Our Field Trip

On our field trip we took the bus to Winnipeg. We went to the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. We saw Mr. Mark and Manny the Tuba. The orchestra played some songs. One was Hockey Night in Canada, another was I Will Go The distance. We saw an acrobat on a huge ribbon moving to the music. We had a great time.

After lunch we went to the Manitoba Museum. We went on an Inuit tour and saw many tools, clothing, toys and animals that the Inuit had. In the classroom we got see and hold many Inuit things like a miniature kayak, a sealskin shovel and we got to drill a hole in soapstone with a bow drill. Later we got to tour a model ship called the Nonsuch. It was huge!
It felt like we were getting in the water. Cullen
Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez sat on the ship. Hillary
We had to go down the stairs backwards. Teagan
When we went on the ship we shouldn't touch the ropes. Leandro
We could hear birds. Caige
There were cannons on the ship. Elaina
There used to be a stove on the ship. Holly S.
The ship has been at the museum for over 50 years ago. Cody
The ship is slanted. Johnny
The ship is turned using a rudder and the wind.

There was a mini movie theatre at the museum. Abram
My favourite part of the museum was a cave and there was a bear inside. Robert
I liked walking through the town. Cara
I liked going on the ship and looking at the town. Holly E.
I liked going into the classroom and looking at the model tupic and igloo. Joyce
I liked seeing the caribou and learning about what they eat.
The best thing was when I got to see the Inuit tools and toys in the classroom. Natasha
