Haylee - I predict the flowers will be light red.

Harshita - I think the amaryllis will grow 1 flower.

Emilie - I think the amaryllis will grow 1 flower.

Richclyde - I predict the amaryllis will grow 2 cm everyday.

Tate - I predict the flowers will be red.

Ginger - I predict the plant will get very big and possibly grow another plant.

Alex - I think it will grow only 1 flower and be 10 cm tall.

Ashton - I think it will grow 2 cm everyday.

Mikayla - I think it will be and it will have 12 petals. I think 2 flowers will grow.

T.W.A.S.

 T.W.A.S.

This week at school we learned about how the stem is an important part of the plant. We put freshly cut carnations and celery into cups of water mixed with food coloring. Within two hours we noticed that both were changing really fast. We cut open the celery to see the tiny tubes inside that

carry the water to the rest of the plant. The stem also holds up the plant. To learn more about plants we also watched a Bill Nye video. He told us about a plant that eats meat! It's the venus flytrap! He also explained why leaves change color in the fall. They stop making their own food for a while.

We finished our experiment this week. We learned that plants need water, sunlight and air to grow into a healthy plant.

My last football  practice we learned how to be an outside linebacker and an inside linebacker. At the Bombers field we had fun. Boomer and Buzz were there. I met players from the Bison, the Bombers and the Rifles. And my favourite player was a centre and he was playing quarterback. The numbers were number 5 and 12.

This Week at School....

We had a guest artist come to our class everyday. Margaret Shaw-McKinnon is an author and illustrator. She shared with us her books Crabbit, Pod the Wood Elf and Beech Nut. The first thing we did was draw faces for six different emotions. Then we talked about characters that we might want to put in our story. We chose a dog, a horse and a pig named Dr. Porkchop. It was funny how we decided to make them switch heads. Margaret's drawings were really good and funny. We all got to illustrate the pages in our own books.

Library Fundraiser

Drive one for a Ford Library Fundraiser

We received a cheque for $4060 for the Morris School library and the Valley Regional Library. People and parents came to the school to test drive a new Ford vehicle. Each vehicle driven raised $20. Over 200 people came in six hours. A student from each classroom will be chosen to go McNally Robinson to buy books for the school library. The public library will put their money in a fund for an extension on their library.

T.W.A.S.

Dear families,

We wrote T.W.A.S. together for the first week!

This week at school we planted seeds. First we put the seeds in the dirt. Then we watered them. In my group one plant will have no light, one has no air, one has no water and one plant gets everything.
We learned a new game called Apples to Apples. The judge read words and the teams picked a picture card that matched. It was fun!
In gym we played soccer. Some kids signed up for soccer intramurals.

Princess & Smiley

The peregrine pair has laid 4 eggs in a nest located on the roof of the Radisson hotel in downtown Winnipeg.

We just saw two cute, adorable, fluffy white chicks! The mother just scooped them under her to keep them warm and to care for the last two eggs.

                      T.W.A.S

This week at school we had our last game of soccer basketball. For the people in our class on our team is… me, Ethan, Jamie, Martine and Richclyde. We won the score was 6 to 1. I scored a basketball goal which is worth 5 points and Dakota got the soccer goal. Oh wait… you probably don’t know what it is well first a person has to do rock, paper, scissors  then whoever wins gets the ball. And we start off with basketball the person with the ball can only take 3 steps then they have to pass the ball to someone but if the person doesn’t catch the ball and it hits the floor it turns into soccer! And you can have a goalie for soccer only if you want. And to turn it back to basketball someone has to score or shoot the ball and miss the net and hit the back wall. Or if someone kicks the ball and you catch it turns back into basketball. So you probably get the idea so yeah.

Jump Rope For Heart

Today was Jump Rope for Heart! We raised money for the Heart Foundation and got to spend the afternoon doing all sorts of jump rope activities.

We Create Change Tour - Free the Children

Today we went to an assembly called We Create Change Tour - Free the Children. This tour is traveling across Canada to talk to Canadian Youth about how they can make a change. A musical group called Neverest performed some songs for us. They taught us their new song called Starlight which will be on the radio soon! Spencer West is a motivational speaker and author who is also on the tour. He told us about some of the amazing things in his life like walking from Edmonton to Calgary. He also climbed a mountain in Africa called Mount Kilimanjaro, this biggest mountain in Africa. He also told us about the story of how his had a disease when he was a baby and how the doctors removed his legs. He now gets around by wheelchair or by walking on his hands! How unbelieveable! Our friend Avery Skog started a huge fundraiser called Brick by Brick which raised more than $12000 to build a school in Kenya. Avery is awesome and we all supported him. Way to go Morris School!

Our igloo

We destroyed the igloo and I was in the igloo I belly flopped on the igloo. Now we have to get recycling bags.

by Logan

The igloo is no longer an igloo because of an incident that happened today. So the grade threes got back from french and the grade fours came back from music then someone said everyone hide from the teacher. So then everyone either went in the igloo or behind the igloo.so then Richclyde when he crawled in he kind of hit the igloo then Aylie hit the igloo then a little bit of the doorway collapsed then it all started collapsing on Haylee, Richclyde and Liam. and I am pretty sure they could all come out but they wanted to stay in. And me and Ethan were just watching everything fall on top of Haylee, Richclyde and Liam. Then everybody started attacking the igloo so then the igloo turned into a pile of milk jugs. Then Aylie and Haylee had to get recycling bags for us to clean up the milk jugs. So then we had 8 recycling bags filled with milk jugs. By: Andrew

Owl Pellets

We dissected owl pellets to find out what owls eat. We found bird and rodent skeletons. Owls cannot digest bones and fur so they have to throw it up. We watched a real owl on a video spitting up a pellet. It was gross.

northern lights

The first step we used the paper.

The second step we used the pastels.

The third step we smush  the pastels on a black  piece of paper.

The fourth step we rip pieces of  paper  & then we glue it.

Inuit Research        By Martine

In class we are doing and finishing our Inuit research. Mine is about a Summer tent also known as the Tupiq. It's made from the bearded seal. It was also portable for travel. In the winter they would move into a sod house. It was built on ground not sea ice. They would skin the bearded seal then let it dry. It's not modern but it's old, strange, small, and rough. THE END

Our Igloo Part 1

Today we started building a milk jug igloo. We collected milk jugs to make our igloo. We still need about 300 milk jugs. We used string and a pencil to draw the circle on the cardboard for the base. We used a hot glue gun to glue the jugs together. We placed the jugs on top of each other. We made two layers. Our first row has 35 milk jugs. The second row has 35 milk jugs. We all got in the igloo to take a picture. by 3-4 class

Animal Adaptations Exit Slips

Today I learned that technology mimis nature like flippers mimic ducks' webbed feet. I also learned that windshield wipers mimic eyelids. Martine

Technology mimics different kinds of animals like flippers mimic ducks' webbed feet. Andrew

Today I leaned tech was built to copy animals. Flippers are built to copy duck feet.  Matteo

Today I learned about weird bird beaks. Birds need beaks to save themselves from animals and to eat. Logan

Today I learned about "weird bird beaks". We read the booklet 2 times and I learned huias are extinct. And a hummingbird that sips only nectar. Jamie

Today I learned that sword-billed hummingbirds have a a very long beak to get nectar from tube-shaped flowers. Autumn

My group read about weird bird beaks and why do birds have beaks. It helps them to carry their food. Haylee

Today I learned about animal eyes and that if you had eyes on the side of your head you wouldn't be able to read, play, do math and write. Desiree

Humans need eyes on the front of their heads because we need to eat, read, swim, play and drive. Aylie

Today I learned about animal eyes and about animals with eyes at the sides of their heads like frogs and orcas. They don't need to do things like humans. Emilie

Animal eyes are eyes that are on the side of their heads. We hard to put popsicle sticks in a milk carton using the eyes. Ethan
