Paraguay

Daniel got to experience living in Paraguay first hand! He showed us on Google Earth where he travelled and where his family lives. Daniel taught us that Spanish is the official language in Paraguay but many people like his family speak low or high German. Farming is very important is this country. Famers grow soybeans, wheat, corn, sugarcane and cotton. We got to taste chipa Piti which were similar tasting to cheesy crackers. Daniel showed us souvenirs and told us about the currency, Paraguayan pesos.

Indonesia

Maverick took us to the islands of Indonesia. Did you know there are over 17000 islands in this country? Many tourists visit the capital city Jakarta as well as the beautiful beaches like in Bali. Indonesia is in the hottest spot of the pacific Ring of fire. The people are often threatened by volcanic eruptions and earthquakes. Maverick brought us an Indonesian cookies to taste. Yummy!







Sweden

Sweden is known not only for its meatballs but for its lakes, forests and islands too. Many tourists visit Sweden in the winter for ski vacations. Edwin brought us Swedish cookies to taste called Hallongrottor (Swedish Thumbprint Cookies). They were yummy!





Iceland

Freyja’s family connection to Iceland was the reason she chose to research this country. She wants to visit the ice caves in this beautiful barren land one day. There are as many as 130 volcanoes in Iceland! Did you know that a famous bridge in Iceland is shaped like a sword? 


Ireland

Jason took us on a virtual tour of beautiful Ireland. We got to see some amazing Irish dancing like the river dance. Did you know that rugby is the national sport in Ireland?

Germany

Greta took us on tour of places that her and her family visited in Germany. Her and her dad told us about some of the traditions in Germany and taught us a few words. Greta read us a book written in German and showed us the currency, Euros. 



China

Isla took us to China where we saw many temples. Using google earth we got to see how truly massive the Great Wall of China is. Did you know that China has the largest population in the world? Isla taught us a few words in Mandarin Chinese!




New Zealand

New Zealand is a popular tourist destination. There are beautiful beaches and many species of birds. The Māori people are indigenous people from New Zealand. Not only is the kiwi fruit grown there but there is also a type of bird called the Kiwi! Ethan brought us some fruit to sample. 






Mexico

Mexico is a very big country in North America. We saw pictures of beautiful beaches like Puerto Vallarta that tourists visit. Mexican pesos are the currency and the golden eagle is the national symbol on the flag. Did you know that corn is a popular base to many foods in Mexico? Tamales are very popular! Zoe brought Pesos for us to look at!




Canada

Ben took us on a tour of Niagara Falls Ontario. What a spectacular sight! He also explained how we used to have a $1 and $2 bill before the loonie and toonie. The CN tower in Toronto Ontario was once the tallest tower in the world until 2009. The 360 revolving restaurant takes 72 minutes to complete a full rotation. Many visitors visit the tower each year.
