England

Sydney taught us about England. It’s capital city is London and the currency is pounds. Soccer is a popular sport in England but it’s called football. Sydney brought us some bangers and mash to try. Yum!



Ireland

We learned a lot about Ireland today! The capital city is Dublin and there are beautiful castles to visit there. Rugby is a popular sport and is similar to football in some ways. Kaylee showed us an interesting hat from Ireland and we listened to some Irish music. 



Go Blue!

Thomas Miles #52 of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers visited our school today. He read to us The Legend of Rock Paper Scissors. Everyone got a bookmark, a tattoo and Thomas’ autograph!

Germany

Damon shared his project on Germany. He told us all about popular foods like bretzel, German pretzels and traditional clothing like lederhosen, knee-length leather breeches. We learned that the dog breed Boxer first came from Germany. His family enjoys these four-legged friends. Damon also shared a painting he recreated and a delicious cake called Bienenstich. 

Pink Shirt Day 2019

On February 27th we encourage everyone to practice kindness and wear pink to symbolize that you do not tolerate bullying. 



Ukraine

Amber shared her research on Ukraine. She recreated a traditional Ukrainian dress called vyshyvanka. She also brought perogies for us to taste. They were delicious. Did you know there are over 44 million people in the Ukraine?

Building Structures

Newspaper Towers - Students were given two sheets of newspaper to try and build the tallest freestanding tower possible. They could cut, rip, roll and fold the newspaper. They could not use any tape or glue. The tallest structure was 75 cm. The second challenge was to try to build a second tower with 2 sheets of newspaper and 20 cm of tape. Not only was the tape helpful but the students attempted starting with larger, stronger bases. The tallest structure was 138 cm!



Brazil

We learned some interesting facts about Brazil today. Did you know that the toucan is a native bird of Brazil? Nevaeh recreated a painting by Marcos Andruchack and shared a recording of the country’s national anthem sung in Portuguese. Well done Nevaeh!

TWAS

This week we went skating on Tuesday and went to see a guest reader who was reading to us. We did math circle stars and we watched a book trailer. Some people got books to read. We got to colour structures from science and we went to library. We did what comes in groups and we watched
presentations.  We played prodigy and the guest reader gave us book marks.

T.W.A.S.

We went skating on Tuesday at 10 o’clock. We watched some book trailers. We built a tower made of newspaper and coloured famous structures. We had a reader that gave us cookies and bookmarks. We did math groups and a game which is called circles and stars. We did goastbusters in the gym. We did prodigy. By Noah

Philippines

Garland taught us about his birth country the Philippines. We learned that this small country is an island in Southeast Asia. Garland and his family speak English and Tagalog. Thank you in Tagalog is Salamat. We sampled some tasty treats. Salamat Garland!



Shannon Martin - Guest Reader

Mr. Shannon Martin was our guest reader in the library today. Mr. Martin is our local MLA. He works at the Manitoba Legislative Building. He read «We Don’t Eat Our Classmates » and « I Will Never Not Eat A Tomato ». Thank you Mr. Martin!

Canada


Hailey showed us that before the toonie Canadians had a two dollar bill. Did you know Canada is the second largest country?






China

Did you know that the People’s Republic of China was founded on October 1st 1949? Taylor brought a sampling of honey garlic pork to try. Yum! She also brought a little jacket that a little Chinese boy may have worn.

South Africa

Today we learned about South Africa, the most southern country on the continent of Africa. Carson shared with us a doll made out of corn stalks. It was made by a child who was sponsored by a family in Canada. It was sent to Canada over the Atlantic Ocean from Africa.

Russia

Jonathan took us to the world’s largest country, Russia, his family’s country of origin. Did you know that many buildings in Moscow have roofs that look like candy? We enjoyed tasting Russian-style pancakes called blini. They can be topped with something sweet or savoury. Yum!



Japan

Kyler taught us that Japan is a very small country but has a population of over 120 million people! He brought Japanese coins for us to see called Yen that his dad collected on his trip to Japan. We also got to enjoy a piece of sushi. For many this was their first time trying sushi. Thank you Kyler!

Pakistan

Hassaan took us to his birth country and taught us about places to visit in Pakistan. He shared with us 2 dishes that his family enjoys; Seviyaan, a vermicelli milk pudding and pakori, a savoury fried dough snack filled with potato. They were both delicious!

We travelled to Spain and sampled a Spanish rice dish that Brooklyn made. Many of us went back for seconds, it was delicious! We also learned about beautiful places to visit and other interesting facts.

Norway

Our first country presentation took us to Norway! We learned about places to visit, the climate and traditional dress. We also got to taste Norwegian Krumkake. It was delicious! Did you know that by 2026 Norway’s new cars will all be electric? Well done Olive!
