Thank you Christina

A student from grade nine worked in our class during first period every day for second semester. She joined our reading groups, morning bins and helped around our class. We thank Christina for all her help. 

Track & Field Day

Today was our field day. We competed in events like ball throw, long jump, relay race and different distance rances like the 50 m and 100 m. We won ribbons and everyone tried their best. 

Winkler Camp

Canoeing, horseback riding, archery, ropes course, giant swing and wall climbing were all activities we did that day. We also visited with the animals in the petting zoo and roasted hotdogs on the campfire. We hope to visit the camp again one day! We had a great day! 

Our Garden!

All the 3/4 students helped today to move our plants to the outdoor garden boxes. We also added some petunias. We organized our beans, peas, radishes, tomatoes into rows. Our flowers were planted in the extra flower boxes. 

Baby Chicks!

We have been visiting the kindergarten room this week. They have been observing 9 chicken eggs. They spent 21 days in the incubator before hatching. It took 3 days for all the eggs to hatch. They were then moved to a cage where we could get a good look at them! We were surprised to see that they weren't all the same colour. Many were black with grey, one has lots of yellow and another is a dark reddish colour. They are all adorable. The last egg took longer to hatch so he spent extra time staying warm in the incubator before joining the others in the cage.

Plants are growing!

Our crops, canola, wheat, soybeans and corn all all doing very well. Our other plants, beans, peas, tomatoes, radishes and growing quickly! Some of our gladioli plants are over 30 Cm tall already. Unfortunately our other types of bulbs did not sprout - sparaxis, crocosmia and liatrisyl. In June we’ll be transplanting all of our plants to the outdoor garden in the fenced area on the south side of the school. 

Seed Dispersal Models

This week we learned that seeds need to travel away from their parent plants in order to grow. Seeds travel in different ways; wind, gravity, water, animals, attachment and explosion. We built models to show our understanding.
