Amaryllis Day 1
Today we planted our amaryllis bulb. We noticed that it already has 3 small stems and one is 3 cm. The bulb looks like an onion and is about the same weight and size too. The amaryllis takes a long time to flower. Mrs. Edel will water it over the break and we will measure the changes when we return.

Magnetism and Static Electricity
We explored and experimented with magnetism. We learned that magnets have a south and a North Pole. Like poles repel and opposite poles attract! We also discovered that magnetism can go through many materials like paper, plastic, wood, carpet and rubber too. Did you know that static is a force that can attract too? We created static by running balloons in our hair and tested to see if the static could attract a variety of materials. We found that it stuck to fabric, styrofoam, paper, foil and even Cheerios! It didn’t attracted heavier objects like tacks and brass fasteners.

Remembrance Day
To honour Remembrance Day this year we watched videos in our classroom, read books, had a moment of silence and did an art project. Remembrance Day looked different in our classroom this year but we still took the time to have great conversations about what is peace and remembering those who fought for our freedom. We also learned that people in the armed services help with natural disasters and help people in different ways. Here is a picture of some of the 3-4s art.

Because of Winn-Dixie Party
After reading Because of Winn-Dixie we wanted to recreate the party that the characters had in the story. We did lots of writing and talking about the story and made little puppets too! We enjoyed egg salad and peanut butter sandwiches, pickles and lozenges. We also hung streamers in the window. We wore our pjs as well for Halloween.
Pumpkin Time
We had a fun time doing math with pumpkins. We each got our own pumpkin to measure its mass, height, circumference and to count the number of seeds in it. We were amazed that Max’s pumpkin only had a couple of dried out seeds! Many pumpkins had hundreds of seeds! Then we carved them and enjoyed lighting them up

September 30th is Orange Shirt Day
Orange Shirt Day is the day we honour the Indigenous children who were sent away to residential schools in Canada and learn more about the history of those schools. We read stories, watched videos and did some writing on this topic. Every Child Matters is the motto of this day. We used this opportunity to talk about inclusion and equality and how we all want to be treated. Each student wrote reasons why they matter on a traced arm and displayed it in the hallway.
